Members of various TR Action Groups will be on hand to discussion topics such as Food, Energy, Natural Resources, Population, and Education with the public. Get resilient, share your ideas and take part in Reno/Spark's transition towards a sustainable future. The Great Unleashing10/10/2010 at UNR Joe Crowley On this historic day 10-10-10, the Reno community gathered to join the 350.org Global Work Party with thousands of other people, in over 185 countries, who are acting on behalf of the earth to reduce the carbon in our atmosphere. The over all goal for Transition Reno's Great Unleashing was to engage and inspire everyone to build a more resilient Reno in the face of these challenges. The program included a video montage from the Initiating Team that showcased their experiences of the past year reaching out to the community. Reinette Senum from Nevada City inspired all with her "Canoe-Building" keynote story that wove transition principles into her experiences of taking action toward building resilience in her community. A welcoming video address from Rob Hopkins of Transition Totnes kicked-off the open space part of the gathering, which brought participants together to envision a future Reno, hone in on what their passion is, and what Reno needs to become resilient in the face of peak oil, climate change and economic instability. Action Groups that were formed that day included education, food, heart & soul, transportation, energy, resources, health & well-being, population, government, and green building. A local group parade featured those that already work on these aspects of resiliency in the community, and celebrated partnerships formed for this common goal. This event featured the demise of the initiating team, and the birth of the action groups with music and dance!Visions of Future RenoJuly 2010 Energy in Transition A collaboration between Transition Reno, Electric Car Association, TMCC Architecture Department, and the City of Reno.
