#Occupy + Transition = Sustainable RevolutionOccupy Reno, General Assembly on Saturday 11/19 at 1:30 pm at the Moana Pool The Transition Towns movement teaches us that peak oil and climate change are a threat to democracy and economic justice all by themselves. No amount of democratic reforms or economic regulations will save us, if we don't also transition from fossil fuels to more resilient, lower carbon systems. The Occupy Wall Street movement reminds us that peak oil and climate change can only be addressed if we figure out a way to create real democracy and economic justice. We invite you to meet Occupy Reno and discuss how we can combine our forces. Transition and Occupy Reno are meeting at the Moana Pool tomorrow Saturday at 1:30pm to discuss how we can combine our forces. The meeting is going to be held outside, bring warm cloth and a warm drink.Farmageddon last time in Reno! FARMAGEDDON The MovieCome today to see a great movie:

It's been shown in communities around the nation and now we have an opportunity to see it in RENO! more informationBank Transfer DayMove your money to a credit union
Bank Transfer Day was November 5th. If you haven't closed your Bank Account at the big banks yet and moved to a credit union like Great Basin Credit Union or Greater Nevada Credit Union, here is why it's a good idea to do so asap: - Your money stays in your community
- Credit Unions are non profits and put the money they make into service, better savings and back into your community.
- There is more ATM's for Credit Unions than for the big banks nationwide.
- Your money is still insured.

About the movie: Americans’ right to access fresh, healthy foods of their choice is under attack. Farmageddon tells the story of small, family farms that were providing safe, healthy foods to their communities and were forced to stop, sometimes through violent ac-tion, by agents of misguided government bureaucracies, and seeks to figure out why. Filmmaker Kristin Canty’s quest to find healthy food for her four children turned into an educational journey to discover why access to these foods was being threatened. What she found were policies that favor agribusiness and factory farms ov er small family-operated farms selling fresh foods to their communities. Instead of focusing on the source of food safety problems — most often the industrial food chain — policymakers and regulators implement and enforce solutions that target and often drive out of business small farms that have proven themselves more than capable of producing safe, healthy food, but buckle under the crushing weight of government regulations and excessive enforcement actions. Farmageddon highlights the urgency of food freedom, encouraging farmers and consumers alike to take action to preserve individuals’ rights to access food of their choice and farmers’ rights to produce these foods safely and free from unreasona-bly burdensome regulations. The film serves to put policymakers and regulators on notice that there is a growing movement of people aware that their freedom to choose the foods they want is in danger, a movement that is taking action with its dollars and its voting power to protect and preserve the dwindling number of family farms that are struggling to survive.

You can support clean energy in Nevada!FIT4NV: an Energy Independence & Economic Security Initiative
WHAT is FIT4NV? FIT4NV supports the adoption of a Feed-in Tariff (FIT)—where the term "tariff" is a "rate" paid, not a tax—which pays any operator (that's you!) a fair "rate" to generate and "feed" renewable energy (RE) into the electric grid. It's that simple: if you generate renewable energy and feed it into the gird you get paid a fair price for doing so. WHY are FITs GOOD for NEVADA?FITs are economic development policies that create markets by reducing risk through ensuring lenders, manufacturers, developers, contractors, entrepreneurs, and everyday people—like you—that renewable energy is a safe long-term investment. ACTION ALERT! Endore the FIT4NV ResolutionYour endorsement of the FIT4NV resolution is crucial to the success of the FIT4NV initiative. We must demonstrate broad public support for the FIT bills in both the Nevada Senate ( SB184) and the Nevada Assembly ( AB268)! Want to do more?- Send personal emails (see note below for addressing instructions) to the: Senate Commerce, Labor, and Energy Committee at SenCLE@lcb.state.nv.us AND to the Assembly Commerce and Labor Committee at AsmCMC@lcb.state.nv.us. These emails will get to all of the Committee members working on SB184 & AB268 and show your support for these bills. (This is a very effective way to help.)
- Visit the NV Legislature website and vote for SB184 and also vote for AB268. (This is a simple and fairly effective way to help.)

Sunday March 27th from 1-2pm
At Idewild Park We meet at the California Building (1900 Idewild Drive, Reno, NV) Bring your bucket! The mayors of Reno & Sparks have proclaimed March 22-29 as World Water Week. In observation of this UN resolution, the Transition Reno Natural Resources Committee invites all to our first Water Walk on Sunday, March 27 from 1-2 PM, in solidarity with 884 million people round the world living without clean water. We'll begin at Idlewild Park in front of the California Building, gather water in the river, and then walk to Wingfield Park. Bring a bucket/container to transport water. The one with the most water left wins! (All win, of course.) Any donations collected will be given to World Water Aid to provide safe H2O, improve sanitation, and hygiene education where needed. |
